David Jones Retires as SRA

posted Jan 16, 2012 3:35 PM by Colin Arblaster   [ updated Jan 16, 2012 3:36 PM ]

David Jones

A LEGEND HANGS UP HIS WHISTLE

For 24 years, David Jones has led CNRA as the State Referee Administrator. He has advanced the program well beyondany other state association in the country. With David's guidance and support, we've seen referees make the FIFA list, officiate at the World Cup and the Olympics, and represent Cal-North in MLS every year. David has grown the number of referees to over 13,000, more than twice any other association. David has ALWAYS supported the youth referee program by providing funding for referees to attend Youth Regionals as well as providing scholarship funds to the Youth Referees of the Year. David is also responsible for 2 successful DVDs from Bob Evans.

David has decided to retire as SRA and pass on the reigns to Duncan Way. Duncan will assume the SRA role effective immediately. David's tireless efforts for CNRA will always be remembered and we all wish him the best.

Year End Review and what is new for 2012

posted Jan 13, 2012 9:36 PM by Colin Arblaster   [ updated Feb 28, 2012 6:58 AM ]

Dear Referees,

I hope all is well and wish you the very BEST in the year 2012.  We had an amazing year and like to share our success with you.

We started 2011 with being the assignor for Nor Cal State Cup (U14-U18).  This took place in mid March of last year in Turlock and we had some of the best games, referees and teams in Northern California for this event.  This year this event is scheduled for the end of March through first week of May.

I had the honor and privilege to assign San Francisco Cup last year thanks to Mr. Alvarez and Rich Fern.  This was always my dream tournament to assign and I am thankful to all of you for it’s success.

In early February of last year, I was asked by the US Club event coordinator to provide 20 referees from Northern California for their National Cup Event in Boise Idaho.  We created competitions that took three and half months and with over 47 applicants.  19 referees were chosen and we made a road trip to Boise Idaho.  US Club, Nor Cal League and Assignor.com sponsored the trip. This by far was one of my best memories of soccer that I will always cherish.  We met Alfred Kleinaitis from USSF in Boise and it was an honor for our referees to be mentored by the MASTER.  Before Alfred headed for the airport, he took me to the side and said that you got some of the best officials in this event.  Words cannot explain how proud I was of our referees and I will always be thankful for all their hard work and professionalism.  California referees truly shined in this event and it was furthermore reinforced by the comments of Idaho’s SRA to Mr. Jones.   Great job.

Assignor.com was once again chosen as the sole assignor for Both US Club Regionals in Modesto California.

Nor Cal League established and streamlined their Send Off and Incidence reports by introducing:http://www.norcalreferees.com/  We will be adding more referee related items to this site in the year 2012.

We also started to assign for the first Regional Academy League College Showcase, which was a huge success, and with many compliments from college scouts and recruiters.

The year 2011 was also a great year for the recognition and accomplishments of our female referees.  Our dream team (Kari, Veronica and Marlene) in FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany made all of us proud by their amazing performance. USSF just announced Kari, Veronica and Marlene are also on the FIFA panel.  Once again we are grateful for all their efforts and passion for the game.

We also had 7 female referees chosen by Kari for their performance and skills to attend Disney Soccer Showcase.  Our State referees were Samantha Moos, Deleana Quan and Allyse Cope.  We also had a great performance by our up and coming referees Marilu Borges, Angela Nunez, Sarah Cortez and Leticia Malavasi.  Almost all of these ladies had their games televised in ESPN and I had the pleasure of watching both games with Angela in the center and also Sarah as AR1.  Fantastic job.

The year 2011 also was a great year of accomplishments for many of our referees in their quest for their upgrade.  I am almost certain that I may forget some names so please forgive me if I do so.

Congratulations to Alberto Azpeitia, Darren Bandy, Jose Chavez, Rolando Diaz,  Leandro Villarreal, Francisco Armenta, Efren Ramos, Shawn Darmousseh, Ramiro Cruz, Richard Hall, Garrett Everts, Steven Culberson, Scotty Cunningham and Harry Doherty for their accomplishments.

Congratulations are also in order to Maarten Van Otterloo for being the new Director of Referees for Mustang Club.

So what is new for 2012?

The Assignor.com has chosen the 2011 referees of the year.  Marilu Borges and Victor Rivas have shown what it takes to be the top referee of the year.  Congratulations!

We have added a new section on our website so take a look at some of the USSF Videos at:http://www.theassignor.com/video-resource-center

CCSRA AGM is scheduled for tomorrow night in Loomis.  Please see their site for more information at:http://www.ccsra.net/ Please make the time to come to this meeting.

Assignor.com will be going checkless which means that I will start paying you via Game Official’s GoPay payment system.  I should have more information on this feature within the next two weeks.  I will implement this feature for the CCSL payments for the month of January.

Thanks for your time.

Dear Referees,

It gives me great pleasure to announce launching of Nor Cal Referees website: http://www.norcalreferees.com. We are still in the early stages of setting up this website but just wanted to get the on-line Send Off and Incidence reports introduced to you right away.

Please test the send off and incidence reports and if you have any recommendations, comments or different ideas please send me an e-mail at moe@theassignor.com.  If you are an assignor or administrator, please pass on the above link to your referees.  You are to use this form starting tomorrow.  You are no longer to use the word document version of the send off report.

Nor Cal PAD committee is consisting of five members who I am one of the member and we review each PAD issue on Thursday of each week.  You must fill out the forms within 24 hours of the send off or incidence.  It will only take a few minutes and you will receive a PDF copy of it immediately and so does all the PAD members.  We are also revising the send off report so your referee coordinator/assignor will receive a copy of the report.

Once again thank you for taking the time and looking at your website.

Sincerely,

Moe Shafai

The level of these games are sure to challenge and help you in your quest for an exciting game, upgrade and becoming a better referee. The age groups are U14-U18 boys and girls. Some of these games are also great source for game counts and upgrade (check with your DDA). These games will be played throughout Northern California and I am the assignor for all these games. For the list of accepted clubs please check this link: http://norcal.gotsport.com/clubsite/LeagueDir.aspx?EventID=17468

For the complete schedule of games (GotSoccer format) please check this link: http://events.gotsport.com/events/Default.aspx?EventID=17662 Please note that once the schedules are updated on Nor Cal site, you could provide your availability accordingly. Game fees will be paid by theassignor.com on a monthly basis. The season begins on September 10th. I will be posting the required number of referees for the first couple of weeks, then will be using your availability on the game official website. If you see a game that you wish to officiate then e-mail me and I will do my best to accommodate you. I will be traveling each weekend to different location to evaluate and provide feedback and guidance to referees.

Thanks, Moe Shafai
